Windows XP is a masterpiece of Microsoft (in my opinion, because I am a big fan of this OS). But for so many years, it has already been working on many computers, that it has become boring with its interface. In one of the articles I already talked about... Now, let's look at the process of creating and changing the Windows XP Welcome screen.
When I wrote about the boot screen on XP or pro, I limited myself mainly to standard OS tools, without resorting to the help of any third-party programs. But to change the Windows XP welcome screen, you will need to install one small utility called Resource Hacker. It takes up little space, and you can download it for free and via a direct link.
Changing the Windows XP Welcome Text
In order to change the Windows XP welcome screen, you need to edit the system file logonui.exe. We will edit it using the downloaded and installed program.
Before making changes to the logonui.exe file, I recommend making a backup copy of it, since the changes may not be reversible and may lead to unpleasant consequences. To make a copy of it, simply copy the file to some other folder.
So, launch Resource Hacker and open the logonui.exe file through the “File” and “Open” menus. This file for changing the Windows XP Welcome screen is located in C/WINDOWS/System32. When the file is displayed in the program, open “String Table” in the left menu, then “1”, and then “1049”.
In the right window of this program you will see standard OS inscriptions that appear in the welcome window. They can all be edited. But since we need to change the Windows XP welcome picture, then we go to line 7 (sometimes there may be a different line number), and change that inscription to the desired one. If you wish, you can change other phrases too.
For example, I had “Welcome”, I corrected it to “Hello =)”. When editing, do not remove the quotation marks; they should open and close the greeting text.
After changing the text, click “Complete Script” and save the changes through the “File” and “Save” menus.
Now, if you did everything correctly, after rebooting you will see your message in the Windows XP welcome window.
Changing the Windows XP Welcome Picture
Changing the Windows XP welcome screen is similar to changing the text of the inscription. To do this, also through Resource Hacker, open the same system file logonui.exe.
Now we need to select the “Bitmap” folder in the left menu, then “100”, and then “1049”. On “1049” you need to right-click and select “Replace Resource”. A window will open in which you need to click on “Open file with new bitmap”. After this, you need to select a picture that will replace the Windows XP welcome screen. When an image is selected, it will appear in the thumbnail window. Click on “Replase”, leaving the rest of the settings as default.
After this, save the changes using “File” and “Save”. Reboot and admire.
To change the Windows XP welcome window, you must select a picture with a *.bmp extension. Make any picture in , which is available in every OS or through other image editors. It is better to make the picture resolution the same as that of your monitor. To edit pixel resolutions and crop pictures, I told you how to do this. There are no other restrictions.

How to achieve what you want using the system registry?
Advanced users can disable or change the picture by accessing the Windows 7 registry. If you also want to try to do it yourself, use the detailed instructions below:
In the search menu, type regedit and press Enter. After completing the steps, the editor window will open.
In the left list of folders, find the path HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\windows\CurrentVersion, then go to the Authentication folder, then LogonUI and open the Background location.
Here in the right window you will find the OEMBackground file. If it doesn’t exist, then create it. Right-click: create / DWORD 32 parameter and name the file OEMBackground. Then click on this file 2 times, a window pops up and specify the value 1 in it.
When you are done with the registry, create a storage folder in the System32\oobe system folder and name it Info, and in it, in turn, create a backgrounds folder. This is where you need to upload the desired background image. Look at the picture, what is circled in red, you should get the same path.
When you place an image on the specified path on the disk, it must be in JGP format and no larger than 256 KB in size, it will be automatically installed on the loading screen. To save the changes you need to restart your PC.

Windows 7 Logon Background Changer is a free program and allows you to change your welcome screen wallpaper very easily.

This program does not need to be installed. You just need to unpack the archive. After unpacking, run the file Win7LogonBackgroundChanger.exe. A program window will open.

Changing the Windows 7 welcome screen
1. Launch the registry. Press the Win+R key combination on your keyboard. The Run window will open. Enter the command “regedit” in the row opposite the word “Open” and click Ok.

3. Look for the OEMBackground parameter and open it. Change the value of this parameter from 0 to 1

If this parameter does not exist, it must be created. To do this, right-click in the “Background” folder field and select “New” – “DWORD parameter”. We enter the name and value as in Figure 3.

I don’t know, maybe someone likes the standard greeting in Windows like: “Welcome!” or “Greetings,” but I’m pretty tired of words like that. I started looking for ways to change them. Since this is not just a notepad file to correct, I had to work a little more here. The method I described is available to everyone, you just need to do everything step by step and everything will be fine.
To edit such a phrase, we need a program that modifies executable resource files. I mean a little software called Restorator. Although some people use other programs, such as ResHacker for example, I used this one. I was pleased with the result. 1) Find the resource file that is responsible for executing the welcome script in Windows 7. It is called winlogon.exe.mui. You can find it directly by rummaging through the folders: My computer - Local disk C - windows - System32 - ru-RU - and find the file here

2) We need to set permissions to change it. Right-click on the file and select Properties. Select the Security tab. Select the user you are now and click the Change button. And we give him rights. But we won’t change it here! Since this file is executable and is currently “working”, you simply cannot change it, but you can replace it.
3) Therefore, we copy the file to the desktop. Just don't drag!) Work with the right mouse button)
4) Next, launch the Restorator program and open the file in it, or use the right mouse button and the Open with... command.
5) Everything in the program is quite simple. If you need to change the picture, inscription or icons... All this can be done here. But I didn't go too deep. Only the inscriptions bothered me) In the program we look at the top menu. Select Explorer - Editing Mode. Let's look at the left column. We need the String Table folder, open the drop-down list and select Russian (Russia). On the right you will be able to edit all the inscriptions that this file uses when Windows starts. I've fixed a few. Fixed the greeting itself, starting the operating system and exiting it.
Please note that the phrase “Welcome” must be changed twice: in the fifth line and in the eighth. Save the file to your desktop.
6) Now find the real resource file in the Windows folder. Copy it somewhere just in case, for example in the My Documents folder. Now replace the file in the Windows folder with the file you edited. How to change "Welcome" in Windows XP
1) In this probably already outdated operating system, you need to do similar actions (copy, change security for editing, etc.) but with the Logonui.exe file. It is located at: Local drive C - windows - System32 - here.
